September 11th, 1933.
The Controller, Licencing Section, Board of Trade, Great George St., Westminster, S.W.1.
Dear Sir,
With reference to your letter 143771/31, concerning 1,000 Pattern '14 rifles sent to Liege for conversion to calibre 7.9.
These were converted in 1932, but still in stock.
We are now asked by our agents in China if we are prepared to send the rifles to them in Hong-Kong on consignment as samples, and we should therefore like to know what procedure we should follow regarding the export question from Belgium.
There are apparently no hinderances whatever on the Belgian side, but we suppose we require some form of authority from you to move the rifles, as the agreement between ourselves and the British authorities states that we shall not move or export the rifles from Belgium without reference to your Dept.
We shall therefore be much obliged if we can be enlightened as to what we are now required to do.
Yours faithfully,
For and on behalf of
THE SOLEY ARMAMENT CO.LTD.
(Signed) JOHN BALL.
